Welcome to Haapsalu Vocational Education and Training Centre 16. september HKHK


The main activity of the Haapsalu Vocational Education and Training Centre is to provide initial vocational training. In addition, it also offers various services: catering, accommodation and conference service.

 

Our school is situated in the outskirts of Haapsalu, a small summer resort in Western Estonia. The schoolhouse was renovated in 2005. Besides the schoolhouse we have two cosy students’ homes, a tutorial building lab and a modern wood workshop. In autumn 2016, we started with 800 students and we offer work for 80 employees.

Our school offers initial vocational training and secondary vocational education. The study period varies from half a year to 3 years, depending on the speciality. The studies take place daily for the students acquiring secondary vocational education or periodically for adult learners. We also offer many different training courses that take place in the evenings.

Specialities in vocational training (adults):

  • Care worker

  • Restorer of wood and stone buildings
  • Upholsterer

Specialities in vocational training, secondary education required (adults):

  • Nature Tourism Management
  • Hotel Management
  • Accountant
  • Master Chef
  • Hospitality Service Specialist

Our school also offers study programmes with simplified curriculum, suitable for students with special needs. Specialities not requiring basic education or based on simplified programmes:

  • Cook assistant
  • General construction

We also have specialities with a focus on workplace learning:

  • Babysitter
  • Machine operator

We are a member of the AEHT – European Association of Hotel and Tourism Schools and EHRL – Estonian Hotel and Restaurant Association. We also participate in all of the professional unions of Estonia related to our specialities.

The students of Haapsalu Vocational Education Centre have successfully participated in different professional contests in Estonia. Cooks, waiters, waitresses and accountants, masons, cabinetmakers and IT specialists have won several prices from different contests. In 2006, we won the second price at the AEHT Annual Conference Waiter’s Contest which took place in Ireland and in 2008 the third place in Room-Service Contest in AEHT Kuressaare Conference. Our students of servicing have represented Estonia at Euroskills 2010 and the students of catering at Worldskills 2011 and Euroskills 2012. Our waitress and cabinetmaker represented Estonia at the Wordskills 2015 held in Brazil.

Starting from 2005, our school has actively participated in many international projects and has partner schools in many European countries. We have successfully conducted Leonardo da Vinci and Erasmus+ study mobility projects and participated in NordPlus Junior and Interreg projects.

In 2016, the Haapsalu Vocational Education and Training Centre obtained the Erasmus+ VET Mobility Charter. The Erasmus+ VET Mobility Charter is intended to encourage organisations that have track records of proven quality in organising VET mobility for learners and staff to further develop their European internationalisation strategies.
